Overview (or Summary)
2-(2-Methoxy-4-nitrophenyl)-3-(4-nitrophenyl)-5-(2,4-disulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium monosodium salt, commonly known as WST-8, is a key component in the cell viability assay kit CCK-8. The CCK-8 kit, developed by Dojindo Research Institute in Japan, is used for detecting cell proliferation and cytotoxicity. This kit is convenient to use, highly sensitive, exhibits good reproducibility, and is non-radioactive. However, the price of this kit is steep, with its main component, WST-8, being commercially available at a high cost.
Purpose/Use
2-(2-Methoxy-4-nitrophenyl)-3-(4-nitrophenyl)-5-(2,4-disulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium monosodium salt is a highly sensitive tetrazolium reagent that produces a water-soluble formazan in the presence of NADH. It is a new generation of formazan-based dye that releases the conversion product into the culture medium in a soluble form, allowing for non-destructive determination of viability, thereby enabling cells to be subjected to further research.
Application(s)
2-(2-Methoxy-4-nitrophenyl)-3-(4-nitrophenyl)-5-(2,4-disulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium monosodium salt is primarily used in biochemical reagent kits as a screening reagent for cell proliferation detection substances.
Biological activity
WST-8 is a water-soluble tetrazolium salt that can be used to assess the metabolic activity of cells, producing a corresponding formazan dye, which absorbs at 460nm. WST-8 is commonly used as an indicator of cell viability in cell proliferation assays. In vitro studies
