AEBSF hydrochloride is an irreversible inhibitor of serine proteases, capable of inhibiting enzymes such as chymotrypsin, kallikrein, plasmin, thrombin, and trypsin.

In vitro study

AEBSFinhibitstheconstitutiveproductionofAβbydirectlyinhibitingβ-secretaseinfivedifferenthumancelllines,bothneuralandnonneural.AEBSF,asaserineproteaseinhibitor,inhibitsthelysisofleukemiccellsbyhumanmacrophageswithoutinhibitingmacrophagesecretionofTNF-αandIL-1β.AEBSFalsodisturbsthegrowthofblastocystsonendometrialcellsandinhibitChemicalbooktheadhesionofHeLacellsonHUVECsbyalteringtheproteinsecretionpattern.

In vivo study

AEBSF(76.8mg/kgdaily,i.p.)resultsinprolongationofthesurvivalofmicethathavebeengivenalethalT.gondiiinfection.AEBSFalsoreducesairwayresponseandunderlyinginflammationincockroachallergen-inducedmurinemodel.
